Golf Club Fitting by Player Type

Fitting priorities are not the same for every golfer. A high-handicap player and a scratch player can share a swing speed and still need different builds, because they are solving different problems: one is protecting a strike that varies, the other is refining a strike that does not. This hub explains how priorities shift across handicap, speed, miss pattern and physical build, and links to the detail for the golfer you actually are. None of these pages rank products — they explain what to look for and why.

01

By handicap: what the bag is protecting

Higher handicaps benefit most from forgiveness, correct lie, sensible gapping and a set composition that removes the clubs that are not being used well. Lower handicaps have earned the right to trade some forgiveness for control, workability and tighter distance windows.

02

By speed: launch conditions before all else

Slower speeds need help getting the ball up and keeping it there — more loft, lighter builds, higher-launching profiles. Faster speeds need spin and dispersion control, which usually means heavier, stiffer profiles and careful loft selection rather than simply less loft.

03

By miss pattern: direction is a specification

A persistent slice or hook is partly technique and partly equipment: lie angle, grip size, shaft weight, face technology and head bias all contribute. Fitting will not rebuild your swing, but it stops the clubs from making the same miss worse.

04

By build: length, lie and weight

Height, wrist-to-floor, hand size and strength decide starting length, lie and total weight. Tall and short golfers, and golfers with unusual hand proportions, are the group most poorly served by stock builds — and the group with the most to gain from getting three numbers right.

Frequently asked

Do you recommend specific club models by player type?
The public guides explain what to look for. Specific head, shaft and specification recommendations come from your own TruePath analysis, based on your data rather than a category average.
Is fitting worth it for a beginner?
Correct length, lie and grip size are worth it immediately. Premium builds are better delayed until your swing settles.
What if I fit into more than one type?
Most golfers do. The analysis weighs them together rather than treating you as a single label.
