How to Get Fit for Golf Clubs at Home

You can gather everything a remote fitting needs with a tape measure, a rangefinder or a scorecard, and one honest range session. This page is the preparation checklist. Do it properly and the analysis has clean inputs; guess at it and you will get a build tuned to a golfer who does not exist. Nothing here requires a launch monitor, a net or a simulator.

01

Body measurements

Height in shoes you play in. Wrist-to-floor: stand upright in golf shoes, arms hanging relaxed, and measure from the crease of the wrist to the ground. Glove size and whether your fingers are long or short for your hand — grip size follows hand shape more than hand length.

02

Your current clubs, exactly

Model and year, shaft model, flex and weight, loft on adjustable heads, and grip model and size. Manufacturer spec sheets beat memory. A fitting that knows exactly what you play now can reason about what changed and why, instead of starting from nothing.

03

Carry distances that are real

Carry, not total. Take ten shots with a club, ignore the two best and two worst, and use the middle. A rangefinder to a landing area works; so does noting pin distances on approach shots over several rounds. Most golfers report their career-best number, which pushes lofts and gapping in the wrong direction.

04

Flight and miss pattern

For driver, mid iron and wedge: normal shot shape, normal trajectory height, and where the bad one goes. Then note what actually costs you strokes — the thinned wedge, the double-cross, the gap you cannot cover. That is the part a good fitting is meant to solve.

Frequently asked

What if I do not know my current shaft?
It is usually printed on the shaft itself near the grip or the hosel. If it has worn off, the club model and year narrows it enough to be useful.
Can I measure wrist-to-floor alone?
Yes, against a wall with a pencil mark, though having someone read the tape is more accurate.
How many range sessions do I need?
One good one is enough if you record honestly. Two spread across different days is better.
